This is why I love fundraising!

Anyone who personally knows me knows that I have a passion for fundraising. It's not just the act of setting a goal and then making it happen, it's about contributing to the bigger picture. I worked for Baylor College of Medicine's fundraising department for more than 5 years and during this time learned a great deal about finding prospective donors, cultivating relationships, and finally making the ask. Even though I am no longer in the fundraising office, I still enjoy working with local non-profits through Sara Michelle Design.

Over the last three years as a freelancers, I have worked with local non-profits on graphic and web designs, social media, proposals, and grant applications, but when I was approached by The John Fair III Spinal Cord Injury Foundation about creating an online giving campaign, I was overjoyed. This was the first time, I would be starting and running my own campaign and because my sister was born with spina bifida, I had a special connection with the cause. I encourage you to watch John's story. (The video was created by Sara Michelle Design.) To learn more about this organization and its work with youth and young adults overcoming physical disabilities.

In working with the Foundation, we had a great 2013. We had the very first Summer Camp at Schlitterbahn Galveston, we were able to attend three Astros baseball games, and two Dynamo soccer games. I am truly inspired to see the faces everyone who had the chance to participate. Take a look at this video of summer camp! I can't wait to see what we accomplish in 2014.
