Anyone who personally knows me knows that I have a passion for fundraising. It's not just the act of setting a goal and then making it happen, it's about contributing to the bigger picture. I worked for Baylor College of Medicine's fundraising department for more than 5 years and during this time learned a great deal about finding prospective donors, cultivating relationships, and finally making the ask. Even though I am no longer in the fundraising office, I still enjoy working with local non-profits through Sara Michelle Design.
Over the last three years as a freelancers, I have worked with local non-profits on graphic and web designs, social media, proposals, and grant applications, but when I was approached by The John Fair III Spinal Cord Injury Foundation about creating an online giving campaign, I was overjoyed. This was the first time, I would be starting and running my own campaign and because my sister was born with spina bifida, I had a special connection with the cause. I encourage you to watch John's story. (The video was created by Sara Michelle Design.) In working with the Foundation, we had a great 2013. We had the very first Summer Camp at Schlitterbahn Galveston, we were able to attend three Astros baseball games, and two Dynamo soccer games. I am truly inspired to see the faces everyone who had the chance to participate. Take a look at this video of summer camp! I can't wait to see what we accomplish in 2014.
